Cause Collage
Problem Statement:
Create a collage in the dada style that visually represents an issue that you feel strongly about. This issue can be something that affects the world, a country, a particular group of people or even just yourself. This collage will be about showcasing awareness, a possible solution or both.
This problem is going to require you to work outside of class. By tomorrow, come up with 2 topics that you can create your collage on. These must be written down and will be graded.
- Must be an issue you care about. Do not just pick an issue because you think it will be easy.
- Visually raise awareness for or a possible solution to the issue.
- Must be school appropriate
- Have 2 ideas just in case your top choice is not accepted.
If you are having trouble coming up with ideas, check out the links and slide presentation below.

Inspired by a Master
Where do you get your inspiration? Where do ideas come from? Who are the influential people in photography that made the media what it is today? Your next photography problem will answer all of those questions. Inspired by a Master deals with looking at other photographers work and using it it as influence on your own. You will shoot a roll of film based off of your photographers work. This can be anything from subject matter, concept, to who the photographs influenced. The most important aspect of this problem is selecting a photographer. In the post below, there is a list of about 50 different photographers. Take some time to look at a few and pick one that you like. There can be no overlaps in each class so the first person to email me or give me a hand written note with your name, photographers name, 2nd choice (especially if emailing), and period. Take a look at the slide show below for examples of artists and photographers who have used other artists for inspiration.

For photography 1 class, you will need to create a flickr account. This needs to be completed by Tuesday, the 25th in order to turn in your selective color assignment. To do this follow, the instructions below. You will need to create a yahoo account for this. If you already have a yahoo account or a google account, just log in.
1. Go to www.flickr.com
2. In the top right hand corner of the screen there will be a link to "create your account" - or "sign in" if you already have a flickr account.
3. On the bottom right hand side of the screen click "create new account" and follow the instructions on the screen
4. Log into your flickr account
5. Create a flickr screen name - It should include your first initial (or first name) and last name - These will be looked at by professionals, peers and administrators. If your name is already taken, try different combinations using your first initial, middle initial or even adding numbers at the end. I will need to be able to recognize your account name for grading purposes. If your name is not professional, you will not be allowed into the group.
6. Write down your informations somewhere so that you can remember your id.

Selective Coloring
Your next photoshop problem will be to add color (or take color away) from a very specific area of an image. Artists use selective color to add emphasis to a certain area, lead the viewers eye through an image or to create / change the mood of an image.
Problem Specs:
Must use your own photography.
This can be digital or a darkroom print.
Must add color for a specific reason (see the 3 above)
Image has been fully restored
Image has been uploaded to the flickr group pool.
